The Sixth Sense

The sixth sense is defined as a power of perception seemingly independent of the five senses; keen intuition. Intuition is defined as a sense of something not evident or deducible; an impression. The sixth sense has come to be known as the combined term for the phenomena of telepathy, clairvoyance, psychometry, premonition, prediction, crystal gazing, seeing apparitions, and extrasensory perception (ESP).

Telepathy is the ability to transmit thoughts directly to the mind of another, or to receive thoughts directly from the mind of another, without any normal interaction.

Clairvoyance is the paranormal ability to see persons and events that are distant in time or place. Clairvoyance may include psychometry, second sight, and crystal gazing.

Psychometry is an ability claimed by many psychics and mediums, of becoming aware of the characters, surroundings, or events connected with an individual by holding or touching an object, such as a watch or ring, that the individual possessed or that was strongly identified with the person.

A premonition is a paranormal impression warning of a future event. Premonitions may range from vague feelings to actual hallucinations, visual or audio. Dreams are frequent vehicles of premonitions, either direct or symbolical.

A prediction is a statement or claim that a particular event will occur in the future. Predictions in the paranormal sense, are usually made by resorting prophecy or by observing omens. Practices such as water divining, astrology, numerology, fortune telling, and many other forms of divination, have been used for centuries to predict or attempt to predict the future.

Crystal gazing is staring into a crystal ball to arouse visions of future or distant events.

Extrasensory perception is perception that involves awareness of information about something (such as a person or event) not gained through the senses and not deducible from previous experience. Classic forms of ESP include telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition.

The term "sixth sense" was coined by German researcher Dr. Rudolf Tischner whose book "Telepathy and Clairvoyance" was written in German in 1920 and published in English in 1925.the first serious paranormal reseach was done by Dr. J.B. Rhine, Professor of Parapsychology at Duke University, North Carolina.
